Falling asleep starts long before you hit the pillow. Creating a successful night time ritual begins hours before bed. This can include anything from sipping on some sleepy time tea to making a list before bed to checking off items in your brain. Here are a few tricks that I’ve implemented into my night time routine that help increase sleeping habits.

1. A Bath before Bed

One of my favorite ways to wind down after a long day is with a nice, long soak in the tub. If you can, hold off to take a dip until after dinner and use lavender oils or bubble bath to wind down.

2. Cozy Up With A Good Book

After my bath, I like to lounge in my favorite robe with a good book. Try not to read or watch anything suspenseful during bedtime hours. This is usually the time when I’ll dive into a self-help or inspirational quotes book to put my mind at ease for happy dreams.

3. Create a Ritual

Whether it’s reading a book or taking a bath, stick to a consistent bed time ritual that tells your mind, body, and soul that it’s time for rest. I keep a few night time oils on my night stand and the minute I get into my bed I will apply. The scent triggers my brain to know that it’s time for sleep.

4. Mask Out Distractions

I don’t use a sleep mask every night, but I will admit that when I do use one I tend to get better sleep. I 100% carry mine on red eye flights because it blocks out any and all distractions.

5. Get a Clock

Sometimes I grab my phone just to see what time it is but then it starts a dive down the rabbit hole into my phone. Having a clock on your nightstand will allow you to take a glance at the time without having to pick up your cell phone.

How adorable is this alarm clock? While I wouldn’t use it as an actual alarm, it makes for a really cute fixture next to the bed. I prefer to wake up to a song or soothing tune on my phone.
